Mmmyes, I'm surprised I managed to do this while juggling final essays and presentations at the same time, heh.
Got lots of ideas and tips and help in general from the ever amazing and superbly brilliant
What's the story?
You want a story??
The tiger is meant to be 백호, the White Tiger, guardian of the West and protector of graves against demons and the like. Otherwise known as Byakko in Japan, and 西方白虎 in China.
I tried to depict a scene of 백호 fighting off a soul-stealing/grave-robbing demon/spirit on a moonless night (well, it's more of a cloudy night, eh?).
The grave in question is the small hill/mound behind 백호, in the traditional burial mound style of South Korea, with the grave marker before it.
The demon was inspired from a mixture of the Chinese dragon and the Balinese barong (neither of which are evil, but the look was what I was after), the Japanese kimono and Korean accessories, along with the chiefly white-ish outfit which is prevalent amongst restless spirits in South Korean folklore.
I tried to depict the demon/spirit as playful and devious, as they usually are in Korean folklore, generally annoying 백호 while attempting to feast on a soul for the night.
Done in PSP CS4 with Intuos3.
Excuse me while I go collapse and sleep in preparation for tomorrow.
